Spending $200/month or less on groceries for 2 people

Is it even possible? How did I come up with that number? The short story is that I lived on a tiny Caribbean island for a while and I was spending a ridiculous amount of money on food. About $400 per month for 2 people. I was certain I would be spending half as much once back in the USA, so here’s my attempt at halving my former grocery budget.

I can tell you right now that I’m failing, but I keep telling myself that I’m still in the stocking up stage after moving to a new state less than 2 months ago. My hope is that my spending will eventually go down, but I won’t feel like a failure if it does not, considering that my budget includes cleaning supplies, paper products, and personal care items. Why did I not separate those items? Well, I buy them at the same time as my food and tracking prices is enough of a drag for me that I didn’t want to bother with yet more calculations.
